TAMPA, Fla. — A Tampa man was out walking his small dogs one block away from his home when he was approached by gunmen and shot. One of his puppies was shot to death.
According to Tampa police, Geovanni Ruiz was out walking his seven-year-old dachshunds on Friday, the 2600 block W Powhatan Avenue when a man approached him and demanded money. He then fired his weapon.
Ruiz’s dogs were struck by the suspect’s five shots at the ground.
“Scary for my dog, scary for me, but more frightening for my dog. Ruiz said, “This little dog.”
Ruiz stated that he was able pick up his dogs and take them home. Ruiz immediately took the dogs to an emergency vet.
Bamby, his dog survived. Jacob, however, died of gunshot wounds.
“Some people are not great. “Bad guy, it’s so tragic,” Maria Teresa Ruiz, Ruiz’s wife, said.
According to the Tampa Police Department, detectives are actively searching for the suspect in this case.
According to police, the suspect is a slim African American man who stands 6’4″ tall. The suspect was last seen in a black sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and a gun.
