Two pieces of good news are available for those who live in Tampa Bay but aren’t a fan cold weather. First, cold weather is not related to cold weather in winter. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration revealed the second piece of good news on Thursday.

Each year, the Climate Prediction Center at NOAA releases a winter outlook for America. NOAA predicts a La Nina weather pattern for this winter, which is the third consecutive year. This usually means that Tampa Bay will experience a warmer, drier winter.

Jeff Berardelli, WFLA Chief Meteorologist, and Climate Specialist said that the cooler water in the tropical Pacific Ocean indicates a weaker subtropical Jetstream running from the Pacific to the Southern U. S. This means that there is less moisture and therefore less rain. This also signifies more sunshine and higher temperatures.

According to NOAA’s outlook for the southeast, temperatures that are warmer than average are “favored”, including here in Florida.

According to the outlook, we also expect less precipitation than usual. NOAA considers the Gulf Coast, and the southeast to be the most likely areas to experience drier than average conditions.

Berardelli stated that “no two La Ninas will be the same” and that this could vary. However, the Bay Area experiences warmer, drier winters than the rest of the country.

Berardelli said that although the forecast is not good, it doesn’t necessarily mean there won’t be any cold weather in Tampa Bay this winter.

“This doesn’t mean that we won’t see cold shots. He said that cold shots will be seen just like they are right now. “But it doesn’t mean that we won’t see some cold fronts with showers or thunderstorms.”

Berardelli stated that the outlook simply means that winter will be warmer and drier than usual.
